This can cause a light layer of rust to form in spots, which only becomes visible once the scales are removed. This doesn't affect the knife's quality or function. To help prevent it, we recommend occasionally treating the area with a few drops of food-safe mineral oil, such as Ballistol.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur Micarta products ship untreated. For deeper colors, you can treat the surface with mineral oil. Micarta develops a natural patina with use.
